Welcome!

In January 2014, I will be going back to Uganda for a medical trip with Anthill Foundation and Rotary Club.  Last year I was able to update my blog throughout the trip which was a wonderful way to reflect and share the experiences I had.  I plan to continue blogging this year and hope you will follow along with me from wherever you are!

I want to thank everyone who donated to my fundraising campaign.  I was able to raise slightly more than my goal of $1500!  That money will be used to purchase medications in Uganda that we will distribute to people in remote villages.  We provide worm medication to every person who comes to our medical camp (I believe this is funded through the Ugandan government) and we also provide free medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, heartburn medication, Aspirin, and antimalarial as well as antibiotics when needed.  These things sound small, but to someone who has no access to anything as simple as Tylenol, these little packets of medication are very valuable.

I will be leaving Portland on January 6th and arriving in Entebbe Uganda on January 7th.  Time travelling is more what it feels like! Our trip this year will have three different medical clinics that are each 2-3 days long.  I will be adding on some additional time in the villages as I will be skipping the safari this year.  As much as I loved seeing those amazing animals, I find connecting with the local people to be such great soul food that I want to take advantage of every moment I can!  I am most looking forward to working with a local physician, Dr. Otine, at his village clinic.  Dr. Otine is a pediatrician trained in the west who grew up in the village he has now returned to serve.  He has learned to do many basic surgeries out of necessity and takes care of whatever comes his way.  It will be an honor to learn from him and to help serve his people.

Looking forward to sharing this great adventure with you all!
