Our team consists of the following amazing people:
a.
Larry Rhodes- our fearless leader and
organizer. Larry has spent quite a bit
of time in Uganda and has made the connections that take us to the villages we
visit. His favorite pastime is sampling
the local brew made from millet.
b.
MaryAnn Rhodes (aka Mrs. Larry)- finances and
catering organizer and Rotarian extraordinare.
She is the mom of the group. Her
secret skill is being able to yodel like the locals.
c.
Dr. Steve Marks- our medical director and
supplier of on the ground clinical knowledge.
He has been acting as a relief provider for the other five providers and
keeps us in line. He answers to Steve,
Stevie, Dr. Marks, and Big Chief.
d.
Carla Marks (aka Mrs. Steve)- nurse, mom, and
all around great lady. Carla works in a
travel clinic at home and has a great eye for helping out us doctors.
e.
Dr. Tom- retired Kaiser family doc from Portland
who serves as my personal pediatric consultant and professor. This is his first trip to Uganda.
f.
Judy (aka Mrs. Tom)-retired family medicine
nurse practitioner from Portland who is helping out in the trenches. She has a rule that she can only remember 2
things at once. After that she needs a
list.
g.
Dr. Sparky- recently retired Oregon Medical
Group family doc from Eugene who also serves as my personal pediatric
consultant. This is also his first trip
to Uganda.
h.
Jane- our own personal California vineyard
owner! Jane has been registering
patients and getting a chief complaint.
For most people this is a pan positive review of systems. She has promised us all a bottle of wine at
the end of the trip.
i.
Brooke- our manager. Brooke also hails from California and has
been the overseer of the lines and movement of patients. Brooke’s favorite thing about Uganda is the
sun and heat.
j.
Deanne- medical assistant, xray technician, and
Uganda malaria tester. She is working to
screen selected patients for malaria and fitting the older patients for reading
glasses. She also manages to constantly
have a smile on her face and cheerful attitude.
k.
Timothy- Eugene EMT and Uganda team herder. He is the teams go to man for keeping track
of all of us, organizing, and being a general McGeiver.
l.
Mark- PeaceHealth pharmacist who has graciously
agreed to take on the task of being our pharmacist. He serves as our consultant and dispenser of
all the medications we brought/purchased.
Mark enjoys sampling the local spicy peppers sans water to cure all that
ails him.
m.
Dr. Andy- former opthamologist and current all
around fantastic doctor who has taken on learning primary care and tropical
medicine. He is the head of OHSU’s
international medicine education program and the best darn specialist I could
ask to learn from!
n.
Cindy- Internal Medicine NP from Eugene who
works at my medical home, Oak Street Medical Clinic. She has been serving as the gynecologist for
the team and has been brave enough to go on a run with Dr. Andy. Mzungu’s running in Uganda is quite the
sight!
o.
Donna- nurse from Oregon who has been serving as
a float support person. She is not a fan
of the local yodel, but loves the Uganda kiddos.
p.
Rick- professional photographer for the team who
has been sent by Anthill to document our work.
He also gets pulled in to help patients get from point A to point B and
keeps us entertained along the way.
